Switching from CNG to petrol operation is performed using a switch (1) in the centre console. The operating state is indicated by means of a telltale (2) in the switch, underneath the switch symbol.

CNG operation is regarded as the normal operating state, therefore the telltale only illuminates in petrol operation.

  2. 2. Telltale for operating state (lamp on means "petrol operation")

If the fuel supply for the selected operating mode is exhausted, the engine cuts out. There is no automatic switching of the operating mode.

CNG booster module

Switching operating mode between CNG and petrol is performed electronically by the engine control unit after the "operating state" switch has been pressed. The change in operating mode is not noticeable when driving.

For CNG operation, an booster module is installed in the cover of the fuse box in the engine compartment so that it fills the area of the cover in terms of shape and size.

The CNG injectors open against a system pressure of 8 bar. For this purpose, the voltage which is switched through to the CNG injectors by the engine control unit must be boosted. The injectors for petrol operation can operate without this boost because they consume less power.
