| Cause: | Air flow meter gets dirty or damaged because of water and oil, which drains through air inlet, air cleaner. |

Remedy:
In case of customer complaint replace hot film mass air flow meter with a stamp 183 (= March 2001) or lower.
Note: Observe the checking procedure first.
Check the stamp on the right side of the connector socket of hot film mass air flow meter.
For Astra G, Zafira, Vectra B, Omega B - see figure (I).
For Frontera B - see figure (II).
The first three digits of the stamp are describing month and year of production, e. g. 088 figure (III).
Note: - It is not necessary for the checking procedure to remove the hot film mass air flow meter as shown in figure (III).
Production date matrix – see figure (IV). For example: 088 = August 2000, or 183 = March 2001.
Note: - Only hot film mass air flow meters with a stamp 183(= March 2001) or lower have to be replaced - see figure (IV) bold numbers.
Replacement of hot film mass air flow meter:
Disconnect wiring harness plug (2, figure V) from hot film mass air flow meter.
Remove hot film mass air flow meter (1, figure V) from air intake hoses.
Install new hot film mass air flow meter in air intake hoses and fasten – tightening torque 3.5 Nm – ensure correct seating.
Connect wiring harness plug to hot film mass air flow meter.
Airflow Meter Part-No.: 93 171 355, Cat.-No.: 08 36 591 has to be used as of MY 2001 for:
Vectra-B Y2.0DTH, Y2.2DTR Astra-G, Zafira Y2.0DTH, Y2.0DTL Omega-B Y2.2DTH
Airflow Meter Part-No.: 93 171 356, Cat.-No.: 08 36 590 has to be used until MY 2001 for 2.0l and MY 2000 and 2001 for 1.7l.
