Remedy:

In case of customer complaint the original seal, either black or dark green in colour must be replaced with the new light green coloured seal, - see working procedure "Pressure Feed Hose, Replace", group "M", Service Instruction Vivaro.

The part number for the seal (PN 93 174 485 / Cat.-No. 44 14 604) has remained unchanged throughout all previous seal specification changes. The colour is currently the only way to correctly identify OK parts. All warehouses should now only have the latest type seal available when ordering.

The current part number will eventually be replaced by PN 93 161 147 / Cat.-No. 44 12 951. The same light green seal will be supplied under either part number however the change will simply assist with service identification.

The return pipe seal (PN 93 174 484 / Cat.-No. 44 14 602 ) is not affected and remains serviced under the original colour. The seal will however need to be replaced when the flange connection on the steering gear is disturbed.

During re-assembly it is very important that the 2 seals are lightly lubricated with power steering oil and pipes correctly aligned on the steering gear before being pushed simultaneously home. The pipes must be held in this position whilst the retaining flange is aligned and the bolt tightened by hand. The retaining bolt must not be used to draw the pipes into the steering gear as this will damage the seals. The bolt should then be torqued to the correct setting of 21 Nm (always check TIS for latest torque settings).

It is also important to make sure that the correct type power steering oil is used to refill the system. The system has now been respecified to Dexron II ( see QI 1570 ).

Note: If the correct type seal has been previously installed and suffered a subsequent failure it is nessesary to establish that both the correct seal installation procedure has been followed and that the system fluid pressure is at correct specification. Refer to TIS service instructions for correct pressure checking method.

The costs for this repair will be covered for vehicles not older than 3 years and a mileage lower than 100.000 Km. The regular warranty procedure should be used for claiming Set-up-time.
