Control Units Parts Number Changes for Z14XE, Z16XE & Z16SE, Astra G, Zafira & Vectra

The following information has been collated to ensure the correct part numbers are being ordered for Engine control units for Z14XE, Z16XE, and Z16SE engine variants.

All Engine control units for the above variants are 9391340 on Astra G, Zafira and Vectra B

Please note that the other part numbers on EPC are Production numbers and cannot be used for service application. EPC will be updated with 12/00 issue.

We have also been advised that the engine ECU on Astra, Zafira and Vectra models fitted with Z16 XE and Z16SE engines, can be damaged if reprogrammed with the current TIS 2000 software.

Therefore please DO NOT attempt to reprogram Astra, Zafira & Vectra Z16 XE ECU's with a TIS 2000 CD version lower than 14. An improved software for Z16SE ECU is scheduled for release with TIS CD 16.

ECU part number 97232225 for Y17DT Astra G with Trouble Code P0105

The following information has been produced following an influx of call to Customer Care regarding Astra G Y17DT

Trouble code P0105 and high usage of the part number 97232225.

This problem occurs due to faulty programming of the variant bytes when using TECH 2.

When using TECH 2 with software from CD 9 (Version 9.000) or onwards, there is no Turbo identification in the variant coding. In this case the waste gate will always be closed and the malfunction P0105 will be logged.

DTC will be set under the following conditions:

1.) When the ECU has been replaced by a service ECU the Retailer must program the ECU, VIN, security code and the variant coding (with or without Air / Con).

In this case the error will occur.

2.) If the Retailer reprograms the ECU which is already in the vehicle with a new software (97 231 405.3 -> 97 231 405.4) the problem will not occur as long as the Retailer does not reprogram the variant coding.

In most of the cases the variant bytes must be programmed in order to get the vehicle running, otherwise DTC: P0602 will be set.

Solution: New TECH 2 software is available as of CD 13 (Version 9.500). The vehicle needs to have the Variant coding reset, this is done by changing a vehicle with A/C to a vehicle without A/C then return it back to the correct variant. Then carry out the S.P.S programming.

Please note this concern is not an ECU related item, please do not replace ECU's to overcome DTC: P0105.

URGENT INFORMATION on Part Number for Y17DT(L) ECU's MY 2001

If Part number 97232225 was ordered for a 2001 MY vehicle. Please Do Not install the ECU and return it immediately to P&A.

For 2001 MY vehicles please order Part Number 97240622 as this incorporates different software. Although this part is not currently available from stock and must be ordered as a Non-Stock item, we anticipate receiving stock in Mid December. EPC will be updated with this information with the disc dated 12/00

Corsa C & Astra G, My 2001 Y17DT(L) Trouble Code P1651

In some cases after engine shutdown and restart trouble code P1651 will be stored due to a miscommunication

between ECU and Pump Control Unit. There is no lack in performance and the vehicle drives normally.

To overcome this trouble code please reprogram the ECU with TIS 2000 CD 15.

Model Year 2001- Coolant

There are two types of anti-freeze available for use in Vauxhall vehicles:

Conventional products with corrosion protection based on silicates.

Colour: Dark green, green/blue

Application: Vehicles manufactured up to MY2001

New products (silicate free) with improved corrosion protection (particularly for aluminium engines) based on organic inhibitors.

Colour: Red, orange

Application: All passenger vehicles as of MY2001

Model Year 01 Silicate Free Coolant

No change interval is specified for the silicate-free coolant in Vauxhall passenger vehicles. Cooling system filled with silicate free coolant is a "Life Time" fill on the vehicle. Factory filled cooling system provides protection down to -30° C. Coolant should only be renewed when replacing radiator, cylinder head or engine; otherwise no change is required.

Exception to this is Omega B with X25DT engine.

Additional information can be found in Service Plan Model Year 2001, KTA-2377-GB, and vehicle Owner’s Manual.

For optimal corrosion protection, always top-up or replace with the same anti-freeze. Observe colour, green for green, red for red.

Engine Oil Specification for Model Year 2001

With the introduction of extended service intervals as of MY01, the following oil grades and viscosity must be used in accordance with the recommended service intervals.

Model Year 2001 requirements

Engine oil grade: ACEA A3-98/B3-98

Engine oil viscosity: 0W-X, 5W-X, 10W-X, (where "X" represents 30 or above).

A3 High performance oils for use throughout the year (stable viscosity "stay in grade").

B3 Used mainly in direct injection diesel engine for use throughout the year (stable viscosity "stay in grade"). Engine oils that feature B3 or B4 next to the classification can be used in Vauxhall diesel engines (e.g. ACEA A3/B3/B4)

B4 High performance oil used in direct injection diesel engines where this grade is a requirement.

Both synthetic and semi-synthetic engine oils, which meet the above grades and viscosity requirements, can be used in Vauxhall vehicles. It is permissible to use a higher grade of engine oil than that recommended.
