Remedy:
In case of customer complaint drill out cracks/spots welds and fill with weld metal.
The job is described for 1 C-pillar. The work applies correspondingly to the second C-pillar. If both C-pillars of the vehicle should be subject to the identical operating conditions, it must be decided depending on the situation whether all spot welds including those not cracked are optimised.
The picture shows the area of the striker assembly.
Working Procedure:
Disconnect battery.
Remove interior trim C-pillar
- see working procedure "Interior trim C/D-pillar remove and install", group "C", of the corresponding Service Instruction.
Remove seat belt
- see working procedure "Seat belt rear/C-pillar remove and install", group "C", of the corresponding Service Instruction.
Remove striker assembly.
Centre punch spot welds.
Drill or mill spot welds on the upper metal plate using an 8 mm cutter, do not damage the metal plate below.
Guard against flying sparkes.
Grind/ sand the repair area.
Fill up bore holes with weld metal.
Grind/sand weld points smooth.
Repaint the repair area.
Seal body cavity.
Install seat belt

Install interior trim C-pillar
- see working procedure "Interior trim C/D-pillar remove and install", group "C", of the corresponding Service Instruction.
Connect battery and program all fleeting memories.
