In Astra-G and Zafira as of MY 2002 a different brake calliper (1) is installed for the rear wheel brake. The new brake calliper can be recognised on the outside particularly from the modified installation position of the return spring (3) and actuation lever for the parking brake (2). The rear wheel brake with the new brake calliper has a greater efficiency and makes no noise. Slanting wear of the brake linings and resulting chattering noises are prevented with this brake calliper design. The absorbers on the parking brake cable (4) and on the brake calliper have also been discontinued with the use of the new brake calliper. The old parking brake cables cannot be installed in conjunction with the new brake callipers.
• Service: In Aftersales, only the new brake calliper is available and can only be replaced together with the brake linings of the rear wheel brake. It is no longer necessary to adjust the distance of the parking brake actuating lever to the stop. The brake callipers can only be replaced together on one axle. It is not permitted to mix old and new versions on one axle.
