Installation of intermediate shaft on steering gear shaft Opel Sintra I

Fitting the intermediate shaft to the steering gear shaft.

All Sintras

Condition:

When fitting the intermediate shaft to the steering gear shaft, ensure that the clamp bolt sits in the groove provided on the steering gear shaft as described below. This results in a change to the operation "Intermediate Shaft, Remove and Install".

Note:

This operation will be incorporated in the next revision of the "Sintra" Service Instructions.

Intermediate Shaft, Remove and Install

Turn steering to straight-ahead position, remove ignition key and allow steering lock to engage.

Push sleeve (1) upwards to stop. Detach clamp bolt (2) for steering gear shaft from clamp of intermediate shaft. Remove intermediate shaft from steering gear shaft.

Re-cut threads on intermediate shaft clamps and clamp bolts.

Insert intermediate shaft into sleeve (1) from above. Coat clamp bolt (2) with locking compound.

Before inserting the clamp bolt, ensure that the groove (arrow) of the steering shaft aligns with the bore of the intermediate shaft.

Attach intermediate shaft to steering shaft with clamp bolt - tightening torque 45 Nm.

Push sleeve onto steering column assembly - ensure correct seating.

Push intermediate shaft onto steering gear shaft (3). Coat clamp bolt (2) with locking compound.

Before inserting the clamp bolt, ensure that the rear groove (arrow) of the steering shaft aligns with the bore of the intermediate shaft.

Attach intermediate shaft to steering gear shaft with clamp bolt - tightening torque 45 Nm.

Push sleeve (1) onto steering gear - ensure correct seating.

Check straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary - see operation "Straight-ahead Position, Check/Adjust" in the "Sintra" Service Instructions.
