An additional restraint system, the full-size head airbag, is available for the Corsa-C, Astra-G and Zafira as of Model Year 2002. The restraint system incorporates the following components:
- Full-size driver and full-size front passenger airbag (referred to below as driver and passenger airbag)
- Full-size side airbag (referred to below as side airbag)
- Full-size head airbag (referred to below as head airbag)
- Mechanical and pyrotechnic seat belt/buckle tensioner with seat belt
- Airbag control unit, decentralised sensor with installation plate
- Contact unit, wiring harness, seat occupancy detection sensor mat
- Airbag system telltale, telltale for child safety seat with transponders
The version with head airbag can be recognised from the word "Airbag" on the panelling of the A- and B-pillars.
The inflators for the head airbag operate according to the known hybrid technology principle and therefore contain only a very small quantity of pyrotechnic material.
A head airbag is always deployed together with the side airbag on the impact-side of the vehicle. For vehicles with seat occupancy detection, the head airbag on the front passenger side always remains active.

Important: The current "Warnings, Safety Precautions" must be observed without fail. Information relevant for the head airbag is contained in the excerpt below:
- Objects (e.g. clothing) must be kept out the deployment area of the head airbag as they may affect the functioning of the head airbag. Only light clothing, without anything in the pockets and without coat hanger, is permissible. Objects in the clothing may endanger the occupants when the head airbag is deployed.
- Maintenance, disassembly, replacement and exchanging of cables, which are connector to the inflator, are not permitted.
- Never compress, bend, fold or twist the head airbag.
- Store the head airbag so that it cannot be compressed, bent, folded or twisted.
- For operations behind the head airbag, never partially release it, and instead always remove the entire module. Folding the head airbag may lead to serious damage that is not visible on the outside. As a result, the head airbag may only partially unfold or not longer unfold at all on deployment.
- Release all the necessary bolts by 2-3 turns in order to detach a wiring harness or hose located behind the head airbag. After repairs, replace all the released fastening bolts individually in succession.
- When reinstalling, only use new fastening bolts. Observe tightening sequence and torque in accordance with the Service Instructions (vehicle-specific).
