Remedy:
In case of customer complaint align the U-shaped striker of the tailgate.
Working Procedure:
1. Unlock left and right stop at the tailgate (Picture I).
Note:
Turn the stop carefully by using a wrench size 30 socket (1) counter clockwise by approx. 45°.
2. Pull out stop as far as possible (Picture II, arrow).
Important:
Do not turn the stop, otherwise it will not be possible to correctly lock the stops.
3. Remove inner panelling for lower rear end panel
- see working procedure "Inner panelling for lower rear end panel, replace", group "C", Service Instruction Astra-H.
4. Remove U-shaped striker from lower rear end panel. 5. Engage U-shaped striker into tailgate lock (Picture III, 1).
Important:
Push U-shaped striker into direction of arrow.
6. Remove rear shelf. 7. Underlay spacer (4 mm) left and right to the rear quarter panel in the area above the tail lamps(Picture IV, 1)
8. Close tailgate carefully (Picture V, arrow).
Important:
Take care, that the U-shaped striker in the tailgate lock does not damage the sealing. The tailgate has to be pushed on both sides carefully towards the stops (1).
9. Mark position of U-shaped striker at the lower rear end panel (Picture VI, arrows).
Note:
Because the U-shaped striker in the tailgate lock can be turned a few millimetres around its axis, the U-shaped striker has to be centred before marking the position.
10. Open tailgate. 11. Turn stop counter clockwise 3 times by 180°.
Important:
Ensure the 180° increments to allow that the stop later can be locked correctly.
12. Latch stop carefully (Picture VII)
Important:
Cautiously lock stop using a wrench size 30 socket, to turn it clockwise by 45°.
Note:
In locked position the markers (1) coincide.
13. Unlock tailgate lock and remove U-shaped striker. 14. Replace both striker buffer with two component buffer (Picture VIII, 1).
15. Install U-shaped striker and align to the marks.
Note:
Tightening torque 20 Nm.
16. Close tailgate and check left and right groove.
Note:
(4 ± 1) mm in the area above the tail lamps.
17. Install inner panelling for lower rear end panel
- see working procedure "Inner panelling for lower rear end panel, replace", group "C", Service Instruction Astra-H.
18. Install rear shelf.
